Random Lockups & Reboots.

I just built a computer with an Asus Motherboard, AMD XP
2000+ CPU, 256 Megs of PC2100 DDR Ram, Onboard Video &
Sound and I have run into a problem that is driving me
crazy and I need help.

All of the software and programs I use loaded fine and
work well but when I start to set up my perhipheral I run
into serious problems and I can't figure out what is
happening. I use a USB scanner, a USB printer (both
Epson), an external USB 100 Meg ZIP drive, a USB Palm
Pilot, and a USB Compact Flash Card Reader.

Somewhere in the process of setting up my hardware things
are going wrong. The computer slows down badly, runs hot,
and starts to lock up and then it goes into a cycle of
reboots whenever I turn the computer on. The computer
will come all the way up to the Desktop screen and then it
hangs as if waiting for something and then it reboots and
this happens over and over again until I physically
disconnect the power. This is the only way that I can
stop the reboot cycle.

All of my hardware indicates that it is WIN 2000 Pro
compliant and I am following the instructions to the
letter but this keeps happening. I have tried to fix the
problem in Safe Mode to no avail.

Can anyone out there tell make any suggestions as to what
is going wrong? I am open to any suggestions. Thanks to
all.

David, you have a heat problem. I think you suspect it too.

Try getting a better processor fan and make sure it in mounted correcty.
Open up the case and have a house fan cool off your computer as a stopgap.
See if it helps.
