Random crash/forced shutdown

Ok, This is really weird:

My comuter has been seemingly turning itself off lately.
There is nothing set to do this. It is not hibernating
or going into standby. It is literaly shutting down w/o
me telling it to. I have XP pro. Lets look at last
night for example. My computer did this, it is almost as
though power just instantly stops going to the comp then
it says off, so I turned it back on at about 8 pm. The
comp was fine, I left it on over night with AOL instant
messenger running, then when I wake up, it happened
again. So this time all I did was tuen it on, this time
when I left, I scanned for spyware and viruses, nothing,
then I left it on, at around 10 am this morning, boom, I
turn around and the screen just goes black. No warning
or anything. I thought I might be on the reciveing end
of a Ddos attack or something like that, or I have some
weird config problem. How do I fix this. I do have a
firewall and all that. This has been going on for about
1-2 weeks, and it is becomming more frequent, almost 3-4
times a day now. thanks for your help.

I'm sorry, but this is not enough information for you to get a good
answer. Your post is the equivalent of saying, "it's broken". Your
problems could be caused by either software or hardware. Since you've
already scanned for viruses and spyware, here are generic
troubleshooting steps for hardware issues - 1) open the computer and
run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and observing all fans
(overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test the RAM - I like
Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run for an extended
(like overnight) period of time - unless errors are seen immediately;
3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the mftr.; 4)
test the motherboard. If you can't do this testing yourself, take the
machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a CompUSA or Best Buy
type of store).

Does it shut down correctly (as if you clicked start -> shutdown) or just
die instantly.
