Random clicking sound

Dell Inspiron 2650, Windows XP Home, SP2. Windows firewall is active,
Microsoft Defender is on. About every 30 seconds the "enter" click occurs.
Doesn't seem to cause any other action but make the click sound. Click sound
works ok when pressing a go button or hitting enter. I know I can turn
sounds off but would prefer not to. Thanks for your suggestions.
 
As it turns out, the sound was being triggered by a program call YOP.exe,
Yahoo Online Protection, part of a package of Yahoo programs installed on the
machine. Found it by running the task manager and discontinuing its
operation. Deleted just this program, including its "parental controls", and
the sound went away.
