random cidaemon.exe errors

Hi,

I get these error messages every few minutes no matter
what I'm doing on my Dell computer. The error message
reads, "Indexing Service filter daemon has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience."

When I go to see what files are causing the issue, it's
cidaemon.exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt .

My question is, are these files necessary for Windows XP
Home Edition, or can I just delete them? In Task
Manager, CIDAEMON.EXE is a system file and is ALWAYS
running under the processes tab.

someone pleeeease help me!! thanks!!!

CIDAEMON is the indexing service. A waste of CPU time and disk space IMO.
This is started automatically by XP.

However, you can disable it by doing the following:
Click on Start
Click on Control Panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance icon
Click on Administrative Tools icon
Click on Services shortcut
Scroll down to "Indexing Service"
Double click it
Change "Startup Type" to Disabled
Click on OK
