I just purchased 25 Dell C640 laptops from dell. They came with
Windows 2000 pre-installed. These machines run chkdsk randomly after
a clean reboot.

The filesystem is a FAT32. I know on linux ext2 filesystem you'll see
the disk check scheduled after ever N boots. I don't know of any such
animal for Windows 2000.

Suggestions?

TIA

Dell pre-installs are some of the worst ever, especially their laptops.
My advice is to get a retail Win2K CD and use it (NOT the the CDs that
ship with the Dells if you can possibly avoid it), blow away the
partitions on the laptops and do fresh install of the OS, and format
using NTFS instead of FAT32. We have had so many problems with Dells and
this seems to be the only real solution. I know it takes a lot of time,
but in the long run it will save you time.
