RAM upgrade

I've usually been a software person but I'm not sure about much in the
way of hardware and I had a question that hopefully one of you can
answer. I'm looking to upgrade the RAM on my machine but I'm not sure
what to get. I have a Medion Titanium MD 8084XL PC with two slots for
RAM (right now there are two 256mb sticks for a total of 512MB of RAM)
but I'm not sure what kind I can get. Anybody's help would be greatly
appreciated.

I am almost certain that although this model is rather elusive on Medions
web site (probably Aldi custom made), it is an 2004/5 800FSB HT model and
therefore a 90% probability it uses standard PC3200 DDR RAM
Suggest you look at Aria.co.uk and buy 2 sticks of their Elixir memory which
will be about £50 for the two!

Do you have experience of Aria Elixir memory ??
Is it any good ??

mail me back direct if you like .........remove NOSPAM

So, is it okay to take out a 512MB stick but leave the other 512MB in
and then replace the first stick with a 1Gig stick even though they're
different brands?

Being different brands doesn't mean much.

What?
You stated you had 2x 256Mb (and if you have 4 slots you can leave them in
place)
With HT, it is generally considered good prctice and sometimes essential
(ddepends on mobo) to have matched pairs
I would buy 2 x 512Mb and if you have 4 slots, you'll have a total of 1500Mb

Sadly I only have two slots and I thought that I would buy a 1 Gig
stick, if it works with the other 256MB at the same time that would be
great but if it doesn't I just keep the 1 Gig stick in by itself. The
main reason that I wanted to buy a Gig stick instead of 2 x 512MB is
because eventually I would just buy another Gig stick for a total of 2
Gig.
