Hi,
I bought a 1 gig module for my 1 year old Toshiba A85-S107, with XPSP2.
I originally had 256 but added another 256 last year.
I took the extra 256 out and put the 1 gig in and the operating system would
not load. I got an error message about a sys32 driver file was missing or
corrupted.
I took the 1 gig out and put the 256 back in and it worked fine.
I switched them out twice with the same results.
Is there a place online to get the missing or corrupt file or do I have to
reinstall the OS? I have everything backed up and all of my original
software disks but I still don't want to do it if it's not necessary.
Could the module be bad? Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Glenda

Id suggest the new module is not the proper type of memory for your pc
or the pc will not support the new module.

Sounds like it doesn't like the memory. Have you run it just with the 1GB
stick?

There are memory diagnostic utilities. They should be run for awhile, not
just a single pass. There should be no errors. Even if the 1GB stick
checks ok, it still may not match with the other memory or with the system.

I suspect that your new 1 gb RAM module is possibly defective or is
not fully compatibile with your Toshiba. Does the packaging indicate
that it is intended for use in your specific Toshiba model or did the
seller indicate that it was the correct specification for it.

It is interesting to note that neither of my two favorite memory
suppliers (www.crucial.com or www.kingston.com) lists your specific
Toshiba model. Crucial comes closest, with the A80 series, and
Kingston stops at the A70 line.

You should contact Toshiba tech support and ask them for the detailed
specifications for the RAM in your specific model; and then ensure
that your purchased RAM is compliant with every aspect of those
details.

Good luck

Thanks to both of you for responding. I wanted to add this information for
someone that may have the same problem.
I found out that the 1 gig module: PC3*00/2700/2100 will not work with this
Toshiba. The 3*00 is too fast and the Toshiba cannot convert it to the 2700.
The only module that will work is the Kingston 2700 or one that is a
2700/2100 without the 3200 in front of it.
I made the exchange to the right module and now it is working.
Thanks so much for the information you were actually right on the money
about the reasons.

Luckily I hadn't used tech support and I guess they give you one free
session with the tech people and Toshiba told me about the module not being
compatible if it has the 3200 in front of the 2700/2100.

*I cant remember the exact number but I think it was 3200

Great, Glenda, glad we could point you in the right direction and thanks for
posting back with the outcome.

Hi,
Thanks to both of you who replied.

front of the 2700/2100.
I fear they will have other people buying the 1 gig modules thinking they
will work because the have the 2700 part but some laptops will not be able
to process it down to the 2700
* the number was 3200 I think but I am not sure maybe 3400?
