What is the difference between a ram disk and a ram drive?
There are a couple ways to store files in RAM.
1) Install a software on the computer, which uses
part of the system RAM. That makes a "virtual disk",
which is very fast. I use that concept, when doing
some kinds of benchmarks.
Note that some of that kind of software is flaky, and
may not uninstall properly, or otherwise give you a
hard time.

2) Hardware manufacturers make boxes that have their own
RAM inside. Good ones, will include a battery, such that
the data will not be lost, if the computer loses power for
a short time. The following example, is a 4GB maximum sized
device, which has its own battery. The user purchases RAM
sticks, and install them in the sockets. (You can see the
battery, on the right hand side of this picture.) The actual
interface on this device is SATA. The PCI slot connector is
used as a power source.

There are companies that make larger versions of (2), but
they cost a fortune.

It is so expensive, no price is listed.
