RAM count incorrect in P5RD1-V mobo

Hello,

I just recently purchased an ASUS P5RD1-V motherboard and planned on
installing 512 megs of RAM in it. Unfortnately, the system only
detects 448 megs of the 512 megs of RAM. I bought some Corsair Value
Select RAM (PC3200 DDR 400) for the motherboard, but I also tried some
Mushkin "Black" PC3200 RAM in it with the same results: 512 module
detected as only 448.

Any help or suggestions on this would be appreciated. I've been
building systems for years, and this is the first time I have
encountered this oddity.

Thanks for any replies!

Hint.
Where do you think the integrated graphics controller gets it's memory
from?...
This behaviour is standard/common for every board with integrated
graphics.

Best Wishes

(Good hint!)

Well, I'll be damned. Thank you! This is the first mobo I have
installed with integrated video, so this is new territory to me.
Makes sense, though, as the difference was 64 megs.

Once again, thank you very much. This will save me a significant
amouth of frustration (not that I haven't already had more than a bit
trying to figure out why this was happening). Learn something new
everyday, I suppose. I'm glad I didn't start tearing down the system
in perparation for returning the motherboard.

Ray.
