If I have a raid-5 with 4 hard drives and one of them goes bad how do I know
which one needs to be replaced. After the bad drive is replaced is the new
drive automatically formatted and the data regenerated.

*** Via your array management software or by looking in controller bios.

*** Most array management software handles this painlessly. You can also do
the rebuild in controller bios.
