howdy,

anyone know if it's possible and if it is, how to get opengl working
on vista beta 2 for a radeon card? i've got a x1900xt running the ati
vista beta drivers from may and everytime i startup call of duty i get
a nastygram saying no opengl and up pops a little console window with
the error. the ccc that comes with the beta driver only has a 3d
settting, not directt3d/opengl as in the xp version of cp.

Good to hear. For a second there I thought Microsoft was gonna
"de-emphasize" OpenGL like it did with Java.

I just tried the same with my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and got the
"could not load OpenGL subsystem" error.
Checked out ATI's site and they have this under the Release Notes:
Note: The following ATI features are not supported in the Catalyst®
Beta software driver for build 5382 of the Beta 2 Microsoft Windows
Vista operating system
· Overdrive™
· CrossFire™
· Catalyst® Control Center Video aspect page
· OpenGL
· PowerPlay™

I uninstalled my Catalyst driver, but still had no luck loading
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

Any thoughts?

Pretty self-explanatory then. It's no Microsoft's doing. OpenGL is just not
supported in the latest ATi Vista driver build. Wolfenstein, Doom 3, Quake,
none of them will work.

Come to think of it, since Overdrive support is also missing, cards like the
X1900 won't be able to step up to the full 3D clock speeds upon launching a
game. Not really a usable driver.

I wonder if any of the previous drivers have OpenGL support.

· Catalyst Beta Driver for Windows Vista Build 5270

· Catalyst Beta Driver for Windows Vista Build 5308

They don't specifially state that there is no OpenGL support in either
of these release notes. Might give one or both of them a try. (I know
they're older, but hey, this is just for testing purposes anyway,
right!)

Worth a try, but don't be surprised if the old drivers don't work. Build
5382 Beta 2 is the first feature-complete release of Windows Vista. There
might have been changes to the driver model.
