Radeon HD 4870x2 power connectors

I have a recently new PSU, 750 watt, got it in may of this year. I
have 6 and 8 pin connectors on my psu, the problem is the keyway on my
8-pin connector is not the same as is on the card. Are there 2 flavors
of 8 pin connectors for video cards? My card shipped with 2 6-pin
adapters, kinda sad to see such a screw up on a $530 card. Can someone
suggest any solutions or adapters? Also whats the deal with 2 keyways
on 8-pin connectors?

Thanks ahead

OK, I was really confused by your question at first. I mean, there are only
two ways to connect it. One way is right. If it doesn't work, flip it 180
degrees. What's the problem? :)

Then I realized, you probably have an 8-pin xeon connector on your power
supply, when what you need is an 8-pin PCI-Express connector. To see what I
mean, refer to the specs of the following power supply, which is also not
compatible with your video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341002
Note that it has an 8-pin (4 + 4) cpu connector and (2) PCI-Express
connectors, but not an 8-pin PCI-Express connector.

I think you will need the following to get your video card working. -Dave

Are we allowed to know the make and model number of the supply ?

Wattage is almost meaningless without telling us the make and model.
Some makers use inflated wattage ratings as a selling point.

I agree with what you say, but the point is moot. The OP has a power supply
with the wrong connectors. Even if it's cheap garbage, it probably would
support his graphics card, with the right connectors (or an adapter). -Dave

Knowing whether the original poster's power supply has the right
connections would be easier to determine if you knew what it is.
Following Paul's lead, by saying that wattage doesn't matter without
knowing at least the brand, for what it's worth in a different way I
too was trying to encourage the original poster to provide that
information.

Thank you all for replies. I figured out what was the deal with
connectors:
Old motherboards had 8-pin power connector which looks very simmilar
to pcie 8-pin power connector. I had those 2 mixed up. My psu did not
have the 8-pin connector for video card. The final solution involved a
2 pin addon connector, a soldering iron and an additional plug to mate
with regular 4 pin power connector. 2 extra pins in 8-pin pcie
conector are both grouds, which i bled off of a 4 pin power connector.
