Radeon Driver Problem

Sidmon

Radeon 9200 128MB ATI Graphics Card. When I go to load up the driver onto XP it
says it cannot install because it needs a standard VGA graphics card installed.
What the hell is going on!!!! I have taken the latest drivers off the
sapphiretech website as well! I'm using the most up to date I can get my hanbds
on and it just wont install!!!!

Try the actual Catalysts, from www.ati.com

Downloaded off the ATI Catalyst site and when I installed it, it still insisted
I should have a standard VGA driver installed before installation. But windows
will not let me use one of those when I go into the graphics Card Settings it
just gives me a choice of ATI graphics Cards.

Have you uninstalled current drivers and then rebooted? When the PC boots
up it should then find your card and look for the drivers - you have to
cancel that and Windows will then load the VGA driver. THEN you can load
your new catalysts.

It finally installed in the end but now I have radeon 9200 and radeon 9200
secondary. Why is this?

S

Strontium

Because it is a dual-head card.

I guess that depends on what, or who, you are replying to...

I'm just on about the fact that it is a two headed graphics card. What
advanatages does this give to me over conventional single drivered graphics
cards.

The advantage is that you can use two monitors. I have no use for it. But,
people that do CAD and even a friend that does a lot of stockmarket trading
find it useful. Can also run a game and have IRC and other things on the
other monitor...

But, the major benefit is that the second port is DVI...you can use an LCD
with the card.

For a hoot, decided to hook up my spare 17". It's pretty cool. Can game,
and read/chat/surf without alt-tab'ing out of the game....yes, I know...I'm
spoiled. Only thing I don't like is the real estate that it takes up!

I've had the same problem on one of my machines. How did you finally get it
to install?

Sounds crazy but you have to have a newer version of windows (service pack 1a)
in orfder for the downloaded version of the driver to work!

If you are referring to XP, I've got news for you. I run XP Pro, without
service packs (or updates). The only time that I, ever, had problems
installing Catalysts was when I had a poor quality version of the card
(PowerColor). Who made your card?
