I just installed the new catalyst and my radeon 8500 is now recognised as a
9200..
I guess it doesnt influence the performances but still I'm quite sad having
my card depreciated that much;-) I know it is now a new card anymore but
well...
I'd better check the perf are still the same actually (didn't have time
running games recently)

I think it's the opposite: the 9200 is a revision of the 9000 which was a
light version of the 8500.

if you look at the chip specs:
8500: 60 M transisitors 9200: 36 M
8500: 4 pipelines 9200: 4
8500: 2 texture units 9200: 1
8500: memory 270 MHz 9200: 200MHz
8500: core 270 MHz 9200: 250 MHz
8500: 75 M triangles/s 9200: 43M

in top of the lower frequencies in the 9200 there is especially the texture
unit missing .. so i dont know why my 8500 would be detected as a 9200...
