Desktop Too Bright After Playing a Game

I recently played around with the Doom 3 demo only to find it too dark
(it turns out it was just a glitch because it's fine now, but that's
neither here nor there), so I toyed with my 3D card's brightness
settings. Now, even after turning them back and deleting the profile I
made for the new settings, anytime I leave a game (any game) the
brightness on my desktop is shot way up and the screen is nearly
unreadible. I have to open up the Desktop Properties window everytime I
exit a game now. My card is an older Radeon 9200 SE AGP and I'm running
Windows XP SP2 with Direct X 9.0c. My Catalyst driver's settings window
says CATALYST Version 05.7, by which I assume it means 5.7 (and if not,
I've probably got another problem). Any help would be appreciated.
