Quietest dvd DL rewriter drive ?

Is anyone in here up to date with what manufacturer is underneath which
badge these days. I recently put an LG combo (dvd reader / cd rewriter)
drive in my 2nd PC and it sounds just a little louder than that new Airbus
A380 on take off !
I had two older LG drives in my main PC and they are/were really quiet but,
I swapped out the top one, a few months ago, for a Lite-on DL dvd-rewriter
which is quite good. I want to swap that Liteon for a better brand,
hopefully one that will go to disk-ready a lot faster than the Lite-on does,
and is also as quiet as the Liteon it will replace. I understand that
double layer disks cost a fortune, and the newer drives will burn a double
layer disk in just 24 hours instead of a week, ....so I want the fastest and
the quietest ! I'd like to stick to LG but, it seems that they're slapping
their badge on anything again ! ...so if anyone has a major brand dvd
double layer rewriter that they're really pleased with - please tell me.

regards, Richard

If it's THAT loud, return it.

I like TDK, their CD-burners are amazing, but I don't know if they are
still around or if they make DVD burners... I would buy a TDK DVD
Burner if I could find one...

A significant amount of the noise is case side panel resonation, I haven't
got around to buying some of that "stick on" sound insulation for those side
panels. (It wasn't one of the cheapest cases but, it was far from one of
the most expensive). Part of the problem of course is the ridiciculous high
spin speeds in the things nowadays, more sophisticated electronics I gues
would be a better idea but, I haven't looked into the design of the things /
perhaps that's just wishful thinking.
Due to lack of repsonse in here perhaps I should post in XP general !
....spend ages reading at Tomshardware.

OH. If THAT's the problem, a new drive isn't likely to fix it. Is this
thing mounted with Screws, or Rails? If it's screws, make sure you've
got both sides snug (don't overdo it, it'll strip out the cd screw
hole).

If it's rails, you'll have to go with the foam pad along the edges.Or
shim it somehow, so it's snug.

Part of the problem of course is the ridiciculous high
