quiet fan?

Hey folks,

I have begun building a quiet system, but have a AIW9000. The fan on
this thing is the loudest in my box and I have begun hunting around for a
quiet solution. The Zalman heat pipe doesn't look like it'll fit in my board
because the DDR slots are a little too close to the AGP slot. Are there any
other solutions?

Can the fan on this thing be replaced with something larger or at least
quieter? I am shooting for a ~25dB range so the quieter the better.

Another option would be to replace the card with one with just a heatsink.
What's the most recent AIW card with a heatsink instead of a fan?

Thanks for any advice.

If your'e not using the adjacent pci slot why not do as I did and fit a dummy
PCI card shaped to carry a slower quiet 80mm fan.

I used an old rear bracket from a old obsolete network card, cut a piece of
blank pcb board to match the shape of a pci card, and then cut a hole in it for
the fan.

Remove the original video card fan and store it somewhere safe.

This works very well for me, it gives good cooling to the video card, and its
far quieter (virtually inaudible) than the original.

Just a suggestion.. :))

Happy new year to everyone.

You sure the Zalman is a problem for the ram? I think they designed it
to make that not an issue, but I don't own one so can't say for sure.
Lots of people have used them with no such problem though. Thermaltake
make a VGA heatpipe too. It does come with a fan installed though.
