Quicktime Movies

I've inherited a PowerPoint presentation that contains Quicktime movies on the first 2 slides. When I try to view the show or even just edit the slides I get blank slides with a message saying I need Quicktime and a Sorenson 3 video decompressor. It looks like I can get hold of the decompressor by obtaining Quicktime Pro, however am reluctant to pay out for this unless I know it will work. Has anyone else tried this?

Hi,

To view the presentation, you'll need the free Quicktime
viewer. It's available at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

You won't be able to edit the video, but you will be able
to edit the presentation without the errors.

Andy, most likely the videos have been encoded with a codec that you don't
have installed on your system, or the QT movies are formatted in the wrong
version. PowerPoint will only play QT videos up to version 2.5. You can
confirm this by testing the file in the MCI player. Go to Start > Run and
type mplay32.exe, if you are running Windows 2000, XP or NT, or mplayer.exe
if you're running another version of Windows. Open the video file and try
to play it. If it doesn't play then PowerPoint won't play it because
PowerPoint uses the MCI player.

You can read all about how PowerPoint handles multimedia at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm . Read
section 3 and confirm that your MCI settings are correct and match the lists
provided. Another reference that is informative is
