I recently downloaded a QuickTime movie (215MB) which won't play on my laptop
running XP Home. When I click on the .mov file, I get the error message
"Couldn't finish initializing application because the file was not found."
When I copy the same movie to an external 80 Mb USB HD, QT takes over right
away and plays the movie flawlessly. How can I play the movie right off my
laptop's HD? Thanks.

I had already browsed the Quick Time troubleshooting section and this
paragraph, I think, says it all:

QUOTE Errors are usually related to software conflicts, unusable files, or
incompatibilities. They can also be related to specific hardware
combinations, and sometimes the way in which the hardware is configured. Keep
in mind that an error message does not necessarily point to a particular
cause or solution. Since there can be many different causes for a particular
symptom, some suggestions may not work, and you may need to discover a
solution on your own. END QUOTE

In other words, "you're on your own, sport..." So much for help from
Apple... Ha,ha...
