QUICKTIME IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!!

A

Alex Ludwig

Of all my years of internet use, this is my first time
resorting to a news group. I am that desperate!

My question;
My mom took the liberty of installing the worst multimedia
program EVER... quicktime. Quicktime couldn't stream a
video file to save a nuns life! Even after uninstalling
it, when clicking on video clips (for example as often
found on CNN's website) instead of opening and streaming
the clip with WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, explorer opens a new
window, and the clip is loaded (or tries to be loaded) by
a quicktime plug-in (it hardly works, its so p*ss poor).
Even after uninstalling quicktime and removing all
extensions and/or plug-ins in the computer to a harmless
folder on the desktop (titled DEATH TO QUICKTIME) explorer
still tries to stream video files through a browser page
with the quicktime plug-in rather than by opening WINDOWS
MEDIA PLAYER like it did up to three hours ago. PLEASE
HELP i've tried everything except the right thing. I've
looked through all the internet options under tools, and
can figure nothing out to set WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER back to
the default program for streaming. (I hope im using the
right word, I mean when you click on a link and the video
automatically "streams" (plays right away in a multimedia
program which opens upon clicking on the link), and you
dont have to download load it to the harddrive and open it
from there.) in some cases the file just plays, or in some
cases it buffers (downloads a 20 second headstart and
plays that while streaming the rest for fluent playback)

Im sure this is something quite simple, but I can't for
the life of me figure it out. Needless to say because I
got rid of quicktime, but explorer still tries to use the
plug-in, a new window opens and an error message comes up
saying quicktime needs to be installed to view the video
file.

Does anyone know how to fix this and set WINDSOWS MEDIA
PLAYER back to the default streaming program?

THANK YOU SO MUCH,
ALex.

P.S. DEATH TO QUICKTIME WHAT A HUNK OF CRAP.
P.S.S. If it wouldn't be too troublesome, it would be
grand if someone with the answer as to how to solve this
could email me at (e-mail address removed) or

thank you very much again.

hi,
i hated the quicktime as much as you before but use it now. it's
better than media player at streaming videos. media player cant play
..mov files while quicktime can. and most of the streaming movies on
the net are in this format.

however if you hate it and dont want to use, do these:

open windows media player>>tools>>options>>file types dialog page.
click "select all" button or choose the file types from the list. i
think it will solve your problem.

if it doesn't helps, email me...
