quicklaunch button size

Just reinstalled XP Pro on my laptop (ATI graphics), and have set the taskbar
settings to small icons. The quicklaunch buttons, for some reason, are
disproportionately large, though. I know that before they were nice and tidy
(before I had to reinstall), so know that it IS possible to have something
that takes less space than these do. Is there some separate setting
somewhere else for quicklaunch button size that I am missing?

Right click on a space in the Quick Launch and go to View and choose small
icons.

Boris,

Right click Taskbar, and unmark "Lock the taskbar" option if it is marked.

Then right click Quick Launch bar next to the first icon (but neither this
icon nor the vertcal bar near it must be selected when you right click) --
View -- Small icons.

You can lock the Taskbar after that.

I never lock mine. What is the purpose of doing so?

Thanks,

Then you can't move the Taskbar over the sides of the screen, and can't resize
it (up to resizing in almost invisible two-pixel line) and its zones -- until
you unlock it by new.

It is useful when, say, you have the entry-levels who like to play WITH the
computer and can mess your screen: there are not uncommon questions in the
newsgroups "Where is my Taskbar??" or "My Taskbar is at the top of the screen
now!"

Oh, so I don't need it locked. I am the only one that uses this computer and
if I mistakenly move the task bar, I know how to put it back.

Thanks for the feedback.

is that what controls whether a program will launch a window that stretches
"under" the taskbar to the left? I seem to be getting that quite often. Is
my solution locking, then arranging all icons, and they will move out? Then
I won't have a problem with windows sneaking under there?

I don't have a "view" in my quick launch area.

That means you either haven't unlocked the Taskbar -- or right click the wrong
place of Quick Launch area.

Unlock the Taskbar, and move slightly the free border of Quick Launch area to
any side -- so there will be a free space for about one icon; right click this
free space then.
