QuickBooks unable to verify digital signature

I have not been able to use the automatic download feature in QuickBooks ever
since SErvice Pack 2. Now I am now able to download data from QuickBooks into
TurboTax because of that.

After spending nearly two whole days trying to track the problem down, it
appears to be an issue of QuickBooks not being able to verify the digital
signature of my IE. I am not completely sure I understand that correctly,
but apparently it is somehow an issue of the certificate being imbedded that
leads be to believe that I need to do a total system recovery.

This is the fourth time, with three different computers, in the past three
weeks that someone has advised me that I won't get a good solution to my
problem without system recovery -- a.k.a., nuking and burning.

Please tell me there is a better solution than nuking and burning my system.

This is what QuickBooks has posted on its message boards about the issue:

Possible
Cause: This issue may be caused by an incorrect configuration of Microsoft®
Internet Explorer on your computer.

To protect your computer and its contents, QuickBooks attempts to verify the
digital signature on all files that are downloaded through the program. If
QuickBooks is unable to verify the digital signature of a file that you are
trying to download, this error message appears.

I am using a Compaq Presario 1700 laptop with the operating system that came
with it. Plus, of course, all your wonderful patches .
