Quick Launch Toolbar will not accept icon

When I drag an icon to the Quick Launch toolbar, Windows Explorer stops and
restarts. I have placed three programs on the toolbar, but now it won't
accept windows mail, word, excel. Again, when I drag "windows mail" to the
toolbar, I receive the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working"
immediately followed by "Windows Explorer is restarting".

Not sure what to say; never had this happen. There are now six programs
total on the Quick Launch.

This is a brand new - received yesterday - SXS37 laptop from PortableOne. I
have also contacted them and they're very responsive. If I receive a reply
from them first, I will post it here.

Hi Shaena,

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There are some
that cause a myriad of problems which do not appear immediately.

Thanks for the response, Bob. I use avast! Home Edition. The laptop did not
come pre-loaded with an anti-virus ap. I've used avast! on a few other
machines and not suffered any problems.

Thanks again.

Hi, Shaena.

You DID uncheck Lock the Taskbar, didn't you?

Yes, "Lock the Taskbar" is not checked. Haven't had this problem before.
This is my second laptop with Vista or I'd think the OS was part of my
problem.

If you right-click on the quick-launch bar & select 'Open Folder', can you
add new shortcuts to the folder?

hello the problem is probably a shell extension thats making windows
explorer unstable...

first of all here is a work around to add icons to your quicklaunch,
just navigate here and copy the icons you want there
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

in order to fix the problem download nirsofts shexview

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html

after you install it,

right click it and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR,

then you will see a list of items, some are PINK, the PINK highlighted ones
are the NON microsoft ones,

try disabling them, do a restart and see if your quick launch behaves
correctly

post back .. thanks

note: you disable them by right clicking on the pink ones and selecting
disable..

this is fully reversable, you just run the program again and re-enable them
if you want

Do you have the same problem if you right click on a shortcut to the program
(located elsewhere - start menu etc. ) and select 'add to quick launch'
