Quick launch cd link problem

Hi, I'm using windows xp pro. Have been for some time and now I have a
problem which I hope someone could help me with.
I have shortcuts of my CD drives on to the quicklaunch bar, all has been
well for ages but now when I have a cd in the drive(s) it reports that the
drive can not be found or the link has changed whenever I click on the
shortcut. I had this problem in ME but I cant remember how I cured it.
Deleting the shortcuts and redoing them doesn't work. The funny thing is I
can drag the icon from the quick launch bar onto the desktop and click the
icon on the desktop and it works ok, I'm at a complete loss.

I have shortcuts to my Hard drives and floppy on the quick launch bar and
theses still work perfectly.

Another problem which I'm not sure if its associated is that if I change the
icons for my recycle bin they always change back to the default ones.

Have you tried System Restore for the CD problem ?

I haven't tried restore. I'm not sure when the problem started and I have
installed some other stuff, was trying not to have do a restore. I do have a
beta service pack2 which I'm thinking of installing but was waiting for the
final release though.

I have a task bar at the top of screen, the one you can create by dragging
folder out of edge of screen, if I put shortcut on there it works fine.
