Quick Launch cannot be restored

MrSteele

I installed IE7 last week. The installation looked fine, but the program
would not start. After several attempts to un and reinstall, I quit,
uninstalled, and rebooted as the promt suggested. When XP started again,
I had lost all e-mail in OUtlook, all addresses, all passwords, all
desktop settings, and the quick launch toolbar.
I tried the Suggestions on the Microsoft site
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555525#top) And still get the message
"Cannot Create Toolbar"
Any more ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Steele

Steele,

Click Start, Run and type:

%Appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Press {ENTER}

Does the Quick Launch folder open?

No, it does not. Now the error message says "Windows cannot find
C:\Documents. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try
again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search."
That search finds all the "My Documents" folders, and 4 Icon folders.
What is supposed to be in the C:\Documents folder?

Open the folder:

%Appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Create a new folder named "Quick Launch"

Current version of Explorer on my computer is 6.0. There is no file
called Appdata there. Ran a search for it and nothing turns up?

More information

Where %Appdata% is a variable that represents the path to your Application Data folder (hidden). In my system, it's located at:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ramesh\Application Data

And the Quick Launch folder is located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ramesh\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Where "Ramesh" is the user account name.
