quick case mount question

Do you have to use stand offs and mount screws on every point of a
motherboard or can you skip a couple? I'm trying to reuse a case and it
seems the wife has tossed my spare parts.

check the motherboard manual. If you need more standoffs, it seems
pretty stupid to risk an entire motherboard and attached components over
a $1 bag of standoffs.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

No you don't have to use all mounting points. I haven't on all the
PCs I've built for myself.

True but unfortunately I live in an extremely rural area and there simply
isn't anywhere within 100 miles to purchase a $1 bag of standoffs. Which
means I must order standoffs and wait for shipping.... this would normally
be ok but this computer needs to be up and running tomorrow because it's a
replacement for a dead system and I have a project deadline of tomorrow
afternoon.

In a shortage, mount one in each corner, if possible, and one near the
middle. If you have more, use them where the boards go in, as that will
receive downward pressure. Then continue to fill up around the edges and
any other holes that are left.

Do the best you can then, and be very careful not to bend/break the
board. You may wish to install all RAM and PCI/AGP cards first. Order
the standoffs and go back later and put them in properly.

I'll add that on a few cases I've had, there aren't holes for them
under all the holes in the motherboard. So do the best you can.

I'm in agreement with Brad's advice. I've read that many manufacturer's put
the necessary grounding point in the upper left corner hole that is closest
to the PS for mounting ( when looking at a tower case with the side panel
removed). If that's the case you'd be covered, assuming you have at least 4
standoffs available.
