Quick ? Anyone heard of TV Tuner/MSFT Lifecam conflict?

Since I installed ATI's TV Wonder 650 Pro (which is Vista compatible & works
a treat with Vista's Media Center) my Microsoft Lifecam VX6000 switches on
in Vista (& XP) and only goes off if I open the Lifecam software and close
it again. In Vista it additionally causes the lifetray.exe to fail at first
boot up. Event viewer keeps telling me to update the drivers and they are
already updated.

Peter,

No, I've not heard of this situation before. Did this problem commence
after installing the ATI TV Wonder? If it did, then there likely is a
compatibility issue between the ATI application and the Lifecam software. At
least that's a logical connection.

If it were me, I'd reinstall the Lifecam software, simply as a last resort
to address the problem. If that fails, your guess is a good as mine.
Possible additional troubleshooting steps include contacting ATI Support
and/or Microsoft Support for additional information.

Information on how to contact Microsoft Support can be found at the
Microsoft website. This site is a user's group, composed of users, though
there are also plenty of experts here who contribute to helping others. Just
some thoughts for your consideration. Someone else may have an answer.

Started right after installing the TV Tuner. ATI deny all knowledge and it
really isn't so Earth-shattering that I want to open a ticket with
Microsoft. Been there before and it usually ends up not solved despite
dozens of emails back and forth.
I tried uninstalling Lifecam and reinstalling, no effect. Maybe with the
next driver update - if any, it might correct itself.
What annoys me is that the lifetray error, although it goads a prompt every
now and again to update the software, isn't reporting it to Microsoft
automatically, despite my settiungs to that end. I guess it doesn't think
it's important even though it's MSFT's own software.

I know this is an old post, but have you had any success solving the problem?
I have exactly the same symptoms/problems as you do. I have a HP Express card
TV Digital/Analog tuner (Hauppage) so it is a different brand. I keep getting
the same solution as you and it has not worked the 2-3 dozen times I have
done as directed. My system runs beautifully in all other respects and is the
only nagging problem. It would be nice to solve the Lifetray.exe failure and
camera active after boot.

The only other problem that comes to mind is the fact that when using a
SanDisk flash drive (ReadyBoost enhanced) the computer will not go into
Standby with it plugged in. The screen goes blank and computer is still on
and active but no way to get screen to turn back on. Also if it does a
complete shut down/power off the computer hangs during boot if the flash
drive is plugged in. That means it must be unplugged each time you go to
standby/power off and plugged in again after boot up. It also will not let
you stop it and be able to remove it as it says it is in use by another
program (ReadyBoost I assume).
