I've already installed WIN XP SP2 (tried to download and
it automatically installed).

I need to reinstall WIN XP because Internet Explorer is
broken and could not be repaired even by repairing WIN
XP.

So now the problem: Don't I have to remove SP2 before I
reinstall XP? And How do I get SP2 NOW so I
can "slipstream" it when I do the reinstall of XP?

Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,

You don't need to uninstall SP2 before reinstalling WindowXP, but you will
need to reinstall it afterwards. You can get the full download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

It's a whopper at 266MB. The Auto-update version (aka the Express version)
will be smaller as it will only download the parts you need. The full
network version contains everything, including all critical updates since
XP's original release, so you will not need to install any other updates
(including SP1) first. To do a full repair installation, read this link:

Me, I'd just reinstall Internet Explorer from its .inf file first. Go to the
Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden files and
folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files [recommended]".
Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the ie.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory). See if
this helps rather than reinstalling everything.

Rick,

I'll try to reinstall IE first, but if it doesn't work,
now I know how to download SP2. Thanks for the info.

Well, the IE reinstall didn't fix it. I'll reinstall XP
with SP2 this weekend.

Thanks Again,
