Questions about ADMT

We are a small company with 1 Win2000 active directory domain, 1 AD
domain controller for that domain and 1 member server. The domain is
broken and it needs to be re-built however it is a production domain
and is currently in use. I'm looking at building an entirely new
domain and then using ADMT to move users, groups, file permissions, etc
over from the old domain to the new domain.

We are still in the test phase to make sure that we setup the domain
correctly this time. My question is what is the impact of ADMT on the
source domain? Since the source domain is in production, I need to
make sure that using ADMT won't affect anything on that domain and
that it will remain the same.

If we aren't happy with the configuration for the new domain, we will
just format and re-install however I want to make sure that all I need
to do on the source domain is remove the trust and potentially the new
domain's admin account from the administrator group on the existing
domain.

thanks,

Aaron Anderson

Hi Aaron-

The lingering effects of ADMT are miniscual. In your source domain, you have
the Domain Admin account, the Local Domain Group named yourdomain$$$, and
then the 2 way trust with the Target domain. You may also have the registry
entry change that the white papers talk about. All of which can be removed
if needed by simply reversing the creation of each item.
