Is there a direct connection between megapixels and printer dpi &
resolution. in other words is a 4800 optimized dpi printer capable of
the very best print from a 5 megapixel camera with an 8x10 or a 16 x 20
enlargement by Kinkos.

No direct connection. Megapixels in the camera will tell you the size of
the photo you could print. To get beautiful pictures you could print at
1440.
