Question re: sounds

I'm getting an annoying "beep" sound - I think it's coming from the computer
itself, not the extermal speakers - when I try do do something )close a
window in which I've made, but not saved, a change, for example, and Windows
pops up a box asking if I want to save the change, etc.

I've tride changing every single entry that shows up in the control panel's
Sounds applet under program events, to no avail.

My computer at work makes a much more bearable "chimes" type of sound.

How can I set or change the sound?

To disable those annoying system beeps:

1. Copy below and paste into Notepad.

----------copy inside only----------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound]
"Beep"="no"
"ExtendedSounds"="no"

----------copy inside only----------

2. Save-as Beep_Off.reg (or any name + .reg)

3. Double-click or right-click and merge into the registry.

4. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

5. To restore the beeps just rename "no" to "yes", save and remerge.

Is the sound subsystem working ? On my machine, I get the
"beep" from the internal case speaker, when the sound driver
is missing. Once I installed the sound driver, I started
getting the "real" sounds, through my external computer
speakers.
