Can RAID 1 be set up ONLY on selected volumes (partitions) in the
mirror ?

Can the OS partition be excluded from the mirror ?

Thnks.

Let me guess, you have only two drives, one of them a larger new one,
and want to raid 1 the capacity of the smaller drive with the larger,
then have the rest of the larger left to run the OS?

That (or whatever, similar) won't work. The whole drive is dedicated
to the RAID array. If it's bigger than the other drive then the
difference, excess capacity, is wasted. You might just create a
separate partition on the array for the OS, but with only two drives
the OS will have to run from the array.

Thanks for your response.
Actually, I am thinking of buying a new Dell Dimension 8300 with RAID 1
pre-installed on 2 x 120 HDDs.
The problem is that I use Ghost 2003 normally to backup my OS partition, and
I understand that Ghost can
clone a dynamic partition but can only restore it to a basic partition
(drive).

So.....I wanted to just mirror my dynamic DATA partitions on the new system
to each
other, and exclude the basic OS
partition from the RAID so I could Ghost it as a normal basic
partition.......but I guess that won't work....

Which is the only thing that sucks about RAID 1. Having a drive fail a year
or two later and truncating a newer, larger drive to fit the array.
