Proliant ML310 G1 boot problem

Hi,

I have a compaq ML310 server with an onboard IDE RAID controller + 1 x 40 Gb
IDE Hard Disc. Windows 2003 server installed on it

I want to use the system as data server, but the system does not support 48
bit addressing, so it is limited to HD's of 137 Gb. On larger disc only 137
Gb can be used.

I've added a PCI SATA Raid Controller with 3 x 500 Gb SATA Discs, but as
soon as I configure the RAID array on this new controller, the system
refuses to boot from the 40 GB IDE Drive which is still connected to the
internal IDE RAID controller.

I'd like to use the 40Gb in mirroring on the internal IDE, only for the OS.
The 3 x 500 Gb (RAID-5 on the SATA controller) is only for data.

I've checked and double-checked the BIOS, and the boot order is correct
floppy > CD-ROM > Internal IDE Raid Controller > PCI SATA Controller.
No matter how the BIOS is configured, the system tries to boot from drive
"C".
It seems that the RAID-5 volume on the SATA controller becomes drive C and
the system always takes this one to boot ...

Any ideas or workaround's ?

Kind regards,
Frederic

Hi,

I cannot eliminate any controllers from the boot order.
All I can do is move them up or down in the sequence.
