Question - missung system files

Helo,
Once time I would like to start my computer Compaq Evo
N800V, with MS Windows XP Professional, and I got the
following message:
system files are missing from WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/CONFIG

What are the posible reasons?

That is the system registry.

See if it offers 'Last Good Configuration' and if that works.

If not, Try a boot using F8 as the BIOS info goes to black and see if
you can get to
Safe Mode - Command Prompt only.

There give
%Systemroot%\System32\Restore\rstrui.exe

which is system restore, and see if you can restore to a point made a
couple of days back - this will restore the registry files in the
process
