Question abt data collection in A 2007!

J

J.Alladien

Hi Everybody,

Have 2 questions:
1.What is the maximum of replies that the data collection tool can handle,If
I am not mistaken I read somewhere that it could handle quite a lot ,up to
100.000 or so
which brings me to my next question:
2.If I have a table with lets say 60.000 email-adresses and I would like to
hold lets say a survey using the data collection tool ,would I be able to do
this, would everyone get the mail, cause I heard that FE Hotmail,Yahoo,Google
Blocks mails if sent to a group of 30 or more treating it as spam even if it
is from a "trusted" e-mail adres, how does the data collection tool handle
this???,Again these are all things I heard which I am not sure about and I do
not have A2007 yet so ...

Appreciate the feedback!

Hi J.Alladien,

100.000 or so

I have not seen any limits published. I believe you would only be
constrained by the overall size of the database, which cannot exceed 2 GB
(gigabytes). Doing regular compacts helps to ensure that any unclaimed space
is eliminated.

2.) The e-mail messages are sent to one person at a time. Each message
includes a unique GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) within the subject line,
so that Access can pair up received replies with the proper people. So, you
will be sending out 60,000 e-mail messages, if you need to survey 60,000
people. You may very well run into Internet Service Provider (ISP)
limitations, but that's something that you'd need to check with your specific
ISP.

So ,Assuming I have no issues with my ISP,this would be a great tool for a
survey right?
I saw that you could only include Text in the survey and not pictures which
is a shame because you could FE include 3 pics of let say differant tiles or
cars and let people choose via the survey which one they like the
most......Or is it also possible to include pics?

I provide help with Access applications for a very reasonable fee. I could
create a survey database for you where the questions are multiple type
including pics, true/false, multuple choice, numeric, etc. I would be
happy to give you a quote if you email me the details about your survey.

These newsgroups are provided by Microsoft for FREE peer to peer help. There
are many highly qualified people willing to help, stevie is not one of them.

Stevie: You should seek professional help, you totally ignore the purpose of
these newsgroups and occassionally go off on rants. You then post as though
nothing has happened. Do you have a multiple personality disorder that lets
you rage on minute and then be oblivious to what you did a few minutes
later?

Hi J.Alladien,
So ,Assuming I have no issues with my ISP,this would be a great tool for a
survey right?

Its a possible tool.....is it a great tool? I'm not so convinced of that. If
you have a controlled environment, for example within a large company where
you know the configuration that each PC is loaded with for standard software,
then--assuming Infopath software was loaded--you could send out HTML based
surveys with this tool. I believe you could include pictures without any
problem in that case. However, if the receipients do not have Infopath
installed, they would get an unreadable survey. Thus, in an uncontrolled
environment, where you cannot count on the configuration of each PC, you are
limited to the text-based method only. This does not include the capability
to provide any data validation, so you'd have no way of preventing a person
from entering text into a field intended for numbers. And that, as you might
guess, would lead to a problem that you'd need to resolve when you receive
their e-mailed survey back.

If it was me, and I needed to survey thousands of people in an uncontrolled
environment, I'd start looking into services such as Survey Monkey
(http://www.surveymonkey.com/). I'm not endorsing Survey Monkey; I'm simply
listing them as one possibility. I'm sure there are others as well.

Reply to an inquiry I made, from the past president of the Pacific NW Access
Developer's group, and a current Access MVP, Armen Stein:

Hi Tom,

We use, recommend and partner with iContact. They can certainly handle what
the poster is looking for. They do not allow usage of purchased lists.
