Hello all,
I just purchased a copy of XP Pro *UPGRADE* (I have a legit 98SE CD w/key).
My question is, is this CD bootable like other XPs ? Also, will I always
have to keep
my 98SE CD handy if I should ever need to reinstall ?

Thanks.

Yes, it's bootable. Just make sure your bios is set to boot from the cd.

Yes, keep your old cd handy. You'll need it to verify that you qualify for
the xp 'upgrade'.

Incidentally, you can install XP a couple ways.

1) you can do it from within Win98.

2) you can boot from the cd.

And, of course, you can do both an upgrade from W98 or a fresh. I recommend
a fresh install.

Back up **ALL** your data, favorites, etc. first.

I suggest you play with XP a while before you activate. That way any damage
you do will be to a temporary copy. Then reinstall fresh again to get a
clean copy.

Also, I would suggest using a program like "Ghost" or something to make an
image of the drive after you activate. Just in case you need to restore it.

It's disgusting that you have to take such precautions because of the
activation, but what do you expect from a gazillion dollar company like
Microsoft.
