Question about RegCleaner

H

heyhey

For several years I've been using RegCleaner,
just to clean my registry (I rather don't mess with the registry itself ;-)
Since I'm still using version 4.3 I thought it was time for an update,
but it seems that the program isn't freeware anymore.
My question: I haven't been updating RegCleaner for more than a year
can I still use it?
It's a simple program and it works fine, so no complaints.
Or should I look for another registry tool?
I tried RegSeeker, which has good reviews,
but it has too many bells and whistles I will never use.

Thanks :)

I cant really comment on RegCleaner since I don't use it but RegSeeker
seems to do a pretty good job and has not crashed my system once. If
you deicide to make a switch, I can recommend this without hesitation.

Use RegCleaner myself and have no complaints (can't stand any of the
alternatives...... either too clumsy or too bloated).

May I ask what version you use?
4.3 works pretty well but I'm not sure if it is the latest version.

If it ain't broke, why fix it? I still use it as well.

You're right about that,
but sometimes there are necessary updates,
that's why I ask :)

I still use as well on my Win98SE system. It also has one of the best shell
extension editing tools that I've come across. I've seen a few request for
apps to remove unwanted items from the context menu and this one is second to
none in accomplishing that task, imo.

I have used RegCleaner 4.30 build 780 for years and it has
never given me a problem, but RegSeeker has given me a
few minor problems. The main problem with it, to me, is it
finds so many things to delete that it's too time consuming to
go through the list and look at everything. It almost always
deletes something that I need, nothing that causes a major
problem, usually something minor that is easily fixed such
as a file association. Therefore I would not recommend it to
anyone who does not know how to fix the minor problems
that it may cause.

I wish it offered a choice of selecting just the safe-to-remove items
(green text), like JV16. It can take forever to go through the list
selecting them manually, using shift-click and control-click to select
them). Selecting them all is probably what gets you into the trouble
you mention.

Good point. That is a feature that is missing that is needed.

TO be fair Joe, Reg Sweeper did not remove it unless you told it to.
You have to be selective and know what is one your system.

I personally have several Reg tools that I use...none are complete.

I do not disagree with you as I am the one who told it to delete
everything, but as I said before it finds so many things that it's
too time consuming to go through everything it found. It takes
me less time to fix the few things I let it delete, that I needed,
then it does to go through the list of everything that it found.
As Larry Sabo said, and you agreed to, it would be nice if
it offered a choice of safe to remove items.

I personally have several Reg tools that I use...none are
complete.

I agree and use several myself, all of which seem to find
something that another one did not find.

RegCleaner from Toni arts has one particular error in that it removes from
the registry the ability to access the help and support files {explores}
under windows XP Pro with SP2 installed_____there is a fix to allow the H&S
files to be reinstalled
With Kind Regards From WillofAustralia

RegCleaner from Toni arts

I think you missed the boat again Will from Aussie. This discussion has
nothing to do with ToniArts "EASY CLEANER", rather its about Jouni Vuorio's
RegCleaner.
