Sorry if this the wrong newsgroup to ask this, so if it is wrong, tell me
which group to post it to.

My question is this: My brother said he upgraded his computer and now his
internet connection is 3x faster. How is this possible, or is he possibly
lying? He was 28.8 Kbps, and now he claims to be in the 70 kbps area.

I would doubt it is that high if he is on dialup.
If his phone line quality is good, and he got a 56K modem, then it certainly
could have improved his internet speed. Usually a 56K modem on a good line ,
will connect around 48-52k...

Still pretty darn slow compared to broadband -:).

I think he's yanking your chain....44kbps is about the max you'll get
out of a 56k modem.........It's possible that XP may have improved the
connection some what.....But I doubt he's getting 70............

Thanks to all who replied. You certainly answered my question. Even the
facts sounded doubtful when I first heard him, I just wanted to be certain.
