Question about install XP

The question is I want to install my XP and update it
online, but my modem is too slow. So I want to install XP
on my friends marchine with my HD then update it.
Could I take this HD and setup to my computer, because i
remember have to send some details about hardware? And we
have different hardware.

That's far from the easiest route. Download the network install of Service
Pack 1a for Windows XP using a high-speed connection.
http://tinyurl.com/5svk Burn the file to a CD. The rest of the updates you
can download from your PC.
