Question about Infrared

I have software that can be set to read from COM ports (1-4).
Serial infrared detectors are hard to find. Do all USB detectors
use COM ports (through software ?). Thanks,
 
NO the usb not use com ports but it generate Virtual Serial [COM] ports and
your software use this as COM ports
