Question about failed upgrade

I attempted to upgrade Windows XP HE to Pro and wound up having to do a
fresh install to a directory other than c:\Windows. Once I get it all setup
properly will it be safe to delete the now defunct original Windows
directory? Also, I'm getting a boot menu now because it looks like I have
both OS's installed. Will that menu go away if/when I delete the old
Windows directory?

Sounds like you acquired an OEM version of
XP Pro which cannot perform an upgrade.
Is that assumption correct?

I don't believe that is correct. XP Pro offer the upgrade option. It got
about half way through it before failing because of a page fault error from
which it couldn't recover. What I'm concerned with now is cleaning up the
mess as best I can. The clean install is working fine. When I get my data
moved over I would like to delete whatever I safely can of what remains from
the previous Home Edition install. Thanks!
