Query Tables Lost

I have a situation where after an upgrade from Office XP to Office 2003, an error message occurs when I open an Excel file created in Excel XP which has a Query Table attached.

The error messages syas something like: Some data may be lost. - Query Table

Is this expected behaviour and is there a way to convert the Query Table so that it will work in Excel 2003?
 
I found out why this was occurring.

The file had an external data source which had been deleted by the customer!
