Query: Panda AV and Win XP (SP1)

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to a Win XP (Home) system, preinstalled with
SP1. I am becoming increasing concerned that AV products tried and
tested on Win 98SE and Win 2K are not functioning well on the new OS.

I have used Norton as my main AV software for several years. I
purchased Norton 2003 for the XP system but on three or four
occasions have found that the autoprotect feature and e-mail scanning
are off when they ought to be on. Only a reboot will switch them back
on. Knowing that some viruses can shut down AV processes, I have run
the system though several online scanners and have no reason to
believe there is anything amiss. I have also scanned it with AVG6
(Free), which has not detected any viruses, etc. Unfortunately, as a
number of people on this forum have found, there have been a few
hutched updating AVG6 due to Win XP with SP1 and/or critical updates.

I am looking for good AV software as an alternative to Norton. Has
anyone tried Panda on a Win XP system with SP1? This is the product
I'm considering:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...04428/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/202-9131741-9754211

All relevant opinions welcome.

Hello,

Panda Platinum is a good AV scanner to consider. I've used it for a
while now and it seems a very easy, light and pretty fast scanner. No
difficult configuration, auto updates etc. It also has a built-in
firewall and I would not recommend to use that part, so just don't
install. The tests are pretty good regarding Panda. It's a good
archive scanner! Another program to consider is: Nod32 by Eset. At the
moment it has the highest ratings! But.....not all that strong on
archives!

Good luck.

Thanks! So no problems with Win XP, SP1, or critical updates? Sounds good to me! :)

I'm running Panda Titanium on Xp Pro with ZA Pro with no trouble and
only slight delays while downloading mail when it updates. FWIW, F_Prot
did equally well. I stopped using it only because it repeatedly
identified a hidden Dell utility partition as a possible boot sector virus.
