QFE updates for xpe device not the development pc?

I am looking at the "dua" tool but I am a little confused,
the updates that I can download are all for the
development system, so when you run it,it is looking for
the database, the designer tool ...,

If I want to use an update (QFE file) with "dua" on the
device the only way (for me) to do that is, to make a
script that copy's the files (that where included in the
QFE) to the right location and add the reg key's.

Why are there no QFE that i can exec. with the "dua" on
the device, that would be the simple and best way?

I think I am doing something wrong, because I can't
believe that it works all by hand written scripts if the
QFE are already available that have all these script
commants inside.

Thanks, Wim

doubleyouare,

There are some QFEs (mostly from Critical Updates section) that are good to
be applied at run time.
And you are right - you will have to script the updates for DUA.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/downloads/xp/critQFE/default.aspx

E.g.,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...77-f3d8-46df-a6c2-9509a805b0b1&displaylang=en.
Look at the bottom of the page, Files in this Download -
Additional_Info_Q837009.RTF link. This will explain to you what files and
reg.keys need to be updated on the device.

greets,

I am new here so i hope this isn't a completely stupid question.

I am unable to do windows updates from the standard site. Are you guys
saying that all of the updates need to be done by hand? I understand that
a rollout process can be created but is there no other way to update
windows xp embedded? I am waiting to hear from microsoft support...is this
true?

Hi Aaron,

There are problems with using standard Windows Update on XPe builds since they are usually made much smaller that regular XP builds,
and it was impossible to tell which updates should be applied to your specific image (if any).

So far we used DUA (Device Update Agent) in present future things are changing slightly :)

Use google groups fro searching answers on DUA and WU.

Unfortunately, that is what we are saying.

You can confirm that after reading this thread

Yes, it is true.
