QFE downloads that run on a XPE device.

I am looking at the "dua" tool but I am a little confused,
the updates that I can download are all for the
development system, so when you run it,it is looking for
the database, the designer tool ...,

If I want to use an update (QFE file) with "dua" on the
device the only way (for me) to do that is, to make a
script that copy's the files (that where included in the
QFE) to the right location and add the reg key's.

Why are there no QFE that i can exec. with the "dua" on
the device, that would be the simple and best way?

I think I am doing something wrong, because I can't
believe that it works all by hand written scripts if the
QFE are already available that have all these script
commants inside.

Thanks, Wim

Wim,
I think I am doing something wrong, because I can't
believe that it works all by hand written scripts if the
QFE are already available that have all these script
commants inside.

Unfortunately, that has been the fact (doing all DUA scripting by hand) for
a while.

But now there is new "QFE Desktop Installer" component available to OEMs
that will allow us to apply QFEs directly at run time (no need for figuring
out what files/registry needs to be scripted).
If you are OEM, you can download the component from here
https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com/content.asp?path=/downloads/winxp/qfe/installer10.

Yes i know there is the desktop installer tool but (when i
understand this correctly) this will only be usefull if
your device hase a normal windows user interface (shell)
my system is headless so no option.

Wim vd Dungen,

Where did you read that? I'd like to see that information source.

My understanding was that the QFE Installer component is nothing more than
just a list of dependencies to be able to run MS Desktop QFEs on run time
XPe images. The component itself does not bring any files/registry.

You as the XPe developer will be responsible to initiate a QFE installation
at your runtime. E.g., you download QFE binary from MS website first, then
you use DUA to install the QFE on the runtime pulling QFE package from a
known location. Since you can run most of the QFEs in silent mode (/q), you
don't have to force any end user UI.
