So over the past year i've been downloading QFE updates from microsoft's XPe
secure site. In the past these were installers that i could drop on my
pre-built XPe.

Around September 21st it seems Microsoft changed the way they are releasing
the updates? before i'm used to a 4mb EXE file, now i'm presented with
several 200-400MB *.IMG files.

Questions:
What do i do with an IMG file?
Why are they are over 400MB, there are about 6 i have to download, maybe
almost 2 gigs to transfer over the network?

surely there are feasability issues deploying 2 gigs to hundreds of field
units

Sometime earlier this year the Windows Sustained Engineering team
started posting the CD image files (like ISO) that contain the updates
for the developer database, it streamlined their process and shaved
several days off of getting the updates posted for XPe developers.

The updates you deploy to a device in the field by consuming the self
extracting update.exe should still be posted independently of the IMG
since they are just the XP Pro updates with an XPe license wrapping it.

Furthermore, you can use something like deamon tools
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DAEMON_Tools) to mount the img file on a
virtual drive.

You will basically find the QFE executables that were previously downloaded
individually all batched together in the disk image.

Stuart

Ahh yes, but it seems like my workload is about to have several days tacked
