To rermove them from the screen:

<Tools> <Options> <View> tab,
*Uncheck* gridlines.

To not have them print:

<File> <PageSetUp> <Sheet> tab,
*Uncheck* gridlines.
 
To hide just some gridlines, choose a background color of white.

Or read RD's answer for other options.
