pxe-e61:media test failure check cable

Hello there,
I have a 3 year old laptop running WinXP not branded but made of
branded parts such as Intel Centrino. My HDD is FUJITSU MHT2060AT and
recently while I was trying a dial up internet connection the laptop
rebooted itself and it gave me the following error message:

pxe-e61:media test failure check cable
PXE-MOF:Exiting Intel Boot Agent
Operating system not found.

I removed the battery and put it back on, I also tried going into safe
mode but it wouldn't let me. I haven't formatted the HDD yet as I hope
there is a solution that doesn't involve formatting that some of you
may know and offer.

Thank you in advance.

It sounds like your hard drive may have failed. The computer is trying to
boot from the network. Ths usually means it can't find a hard drive.

Hi,

Formatting the hard drive won't help. What you likely have is a failed
component - could be the motherboard, the connector cable, or possibly the
hard drive itself. Unless you have the capability of swapping in known-good
components, you will need to take this to a technician for diagnosis.
