putting !!!on each end of a file folder!!!

When i had all my mp3's on my file folder someone told me
to protect it put !!! on each side and now though i have
installed win xp pro from win 98 sec ed upgrade it will
not let me get to the files.
hidden no matter how i go about finding the files through
dos etc chkdsk, it also doesn't even show the folder
containing them, yet when right clicking on the hard drive
prperties says it is full which it should be. some files
were recoverd as fragments 000.chk.
will running deffragh lose data?
can i find the folder that has the !!! on each side yet i
don't remember the name and it doesn't show up on the
drive just says like volume folder its hidden

defeag does not cause data loss, but chkdsk can. You should
not take advice from "someone." Hope you have all the CDs.

thank you most yes but how can i reload them if the drive
is still full of them?
and the "someone" was microsoft telling me to run
checkdisk first!
so defrag is safe?
i looked at the different drives i had and it showed lines
so to speak green yellow white red, it showed that if i
defrag that it would clear up so much space which was
white and i am assuming that means empty space that it
would delete all the rest of the fragmented files?
is that what might happen, this is all because it was a
fat32 and shows only as fat and even reassigned the d4rive
letter right cliking on the drive shows it still as full
and though the system volume folder is there and just a
couple nothing little ones ii cannot for the life of me
get my pc to show system files or folders and some even
hidden and i know how to change attributes even tried
through my other pc as a fluke hoping that would work
because i did make my pc accessable to anyone and my pcs
are networked at home as well and have a different op/s
one has win98 the otherr xp pro and the other millinium
go figure
if you can help me in anyway, i will compensate you
however you would like.
