Putting icons where you want them

I have an emergency note about an EXE placed in a folder next to that EXE.

XP puts the NotePad icon on it and no "Change Icon" option appears in the
properties.

How can I a different icon (Big red X) which I have elsewhere, on this item?

In Windows Explorer, under Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types tab,
you can select the file type (TXT), then clicking the Advanced button
lets you change the icon. Unfortunately, that will change the icon for
all TXT files. You could probably get around that by creating a new
file type (something like TXT1 maybe?) with the same attributes as
TXT, change the icon on it, and rename your note to NOTE.TXT1.

I have not tried this myself, but it sounds like it should work.
